Interventional Radiology

Interventional radiology is a highly innovative branch of radiology that performs minimally invasive, active treatment methods using imaging. Imaging techniques such as MRI, CT, or ultrasound can be used. This enables highly targeted and complex interventions for the treatment of a wide range of conditions such as tumours or benign tissue, and for pain therapy of the spine and joints. The use of a catheter allows, among other things, the administration of medication or the destruction of tissue. Interventional radiology can be used to perform treatments on its own or in conjunction with surgical procedures.

Diagnostic Procedures

Diagnostic Imaging
All kinds of radiological examinations: CT, MRI, ultrasound & X-ray
Bone density measurement (DEXA)
CT myelography (imaging of nerve structures)

Cardiological examinations
ECG, stress ECG (ergometry)
Cardiac ultrasound (transthoracic & transoesophageal)
Carotid ultrasound
24h ECG & blood pressure measurement
Orthostasis
Peripheral oscillography, diagnosis of vascular constriction, blood clots
cardiac catheterisation
electrophysiological examination
angiography
pacemaker check
all radiological examinations of the heart (for ex. Cardiac CT & MRI, calcium score)

Organ examinations
All types of CT, MRI & ultrasound
Colonoscopy, virtual colonoscopy with CT, gastroscopy
Endoscopic examinations & biopsies of bladder, bile, pancreas, prostate, liver, bone marrow & special examinations of the kidneys

Histological examinations
Quick analysis of cytological & histological samples
Immunohistochemical investigations

On-site Laboratory (results in 1–2 hours)

Therapies & Treatments

Interventions

Tumour embolisation
Drainage (pleural effusion, ascites, abscesses)
Removal of histological samples (biopsies)
PEG tubes
Radiofrequency ablation (effective treatment for benign bone tumours such as osteoid osteoma through targeted heat application
Vertebroplasty (stabilisation of collapsed vertebrae, e.g. in osteoporosis or metastases, by injecting special bone cement – to relieve pain and prevent further collapse)

Pain therapy

Interventional pain therapy (spine)
Joint embolisation

Interventional radiological pain therapy can provide rapid and reliable pain relief for treatment-resistant spinal pain.
