Founding and constitution of the “Rudolfiner- Society for the construction and maintenance of a hospital for the purposes of training nurses for the sick and injured in Vienna” by Doctor Gustav Jurie. Crown Prince Rudolf becomes protector of the society and Hans Wilzcek the President of the Association.
Founding of the Rudolfinerhaus private hospital by the renowned surgeon Theodor Billroth. The first nursing school in Austria is established here. The medical care is mainly provided by Billroth, his students and his private assistant Robert Gersuny. Thanks to their extraordinary work it was possible to grow into one of the most respected private hospitals in Austria.
The Rudolfinerhaus returns to being a civilian hospital; open selection of doctors is introduced; many known and widely respected doctors come and care for their patients here. The obstetrics department is opened. The training programme for nurses at the Rudolfinerhaus is recognised by the state.
The Rudolfiner society is dissolved and the Rudolfinerhaus is integrated into the German Red Cross and renamed the “Billrothhospital”. The National Socialist Party assumes an influence on a number of matters relating to the clinic. Inter alia, the medical director is fired, a nurse is imprisoned. Many from the Rudolfinerhaus work in various theatres of the war in Europe.
A completely new management is appointed. Dr. Kurt Grimm becomes president, the internist Dr. Osama Hamid the director, Elisabeth Seidl the head of nursing services. The following years are years of rebuilding and new construction in the institution. The nursing service is newly organized and internationally oriented.
